MARBELLA’S NIGHT MARKET SCENE
Open air markets are a big part of Spanish culture and in Marbella we are spoilt for choice.
During the summer months, when the weather is particularly warm, many of these colourful events are held in the evening, a time at which the Spanish take their customary stroll (paseo) after a hard day on the beach.
In keeping with the cosmopolitan nature of the town, the markets have something to offer everyone, from spices that scent the air with their pungent fragrance to delicious and colourful dried fruits; from Spanish made shoes to jewellery and clothes from every part of the world.
One thing the different markets have in common is that they provide good value for money, meaning you will find that unique gift for that special person while soaking in a laid-back yet lively atmosphere.
Marbella Artisan Market
The Artisan market takes place every Sunday in Marbella’s port (Puerto Deportivo). It starts at 8.00pm and goes on until midnight during the summer months of July and August, while the rest of the year it takes place through the day. It is a small market of around 20 stalls selling antiques, handmade items, paintings, accessories and vintage jewellery. Browsing the Artisan Market is a delightful way to spend a Sunday evening in Marbella – the port is buzzing, the bars are lively and there is a real holiday vibe about the place.
Zoco del Sol, Puerto Banús
The Zoco del Sol market is located in the heart of Puerto Banús, on Plaza Antonio Banderas between the exclusive department store El Corte Inglés and the lively port. The market is held every day throughout the summer months from 11.00am until midnight. The stalls are full of Moroccan lanterns, silk scarves, bright clothing, unique jewellery and a selection of dried fruit and sweets.
This year the market has also expanded to Marbella centre, where it is held from 7.00pm onwards, located at the top of the Plaza Del Mar mall. The Marbella version offers entertainment for the kids, including a large bouncy castle, trampolines and arcade station, allowing parents to browse in peace while the children have fun. There is also a mojito stand, with seating overlooking the paseo and the Mediterranean, just the place to watch the sunset.
A taste of Ambrosía
For a taste of something different, try Ambrosía, the newest addition to Marbella’s market scene. Unlike the others mentioned it is indoors and modelled on Madrid’s famous San Miguel market. A stylish food hall market, Ambrosía consists of 14 gourmet stands offering samples of speciality dishes from many different countries, including Spain, Italy, France and Thailand. For the wine lover, there is a ‘cellar’ with more than 300 varieties of international wine. The new market, situated in Puerto Banús, is spread over two floors and consists of four terraces where you can sit and relax with a cold drink, listen to music and take advantage of the restaurants, cafés and champagne bar on site. Ambrosía is open every day from 10.00am (weekdays) and 2.00pm (weekends) until midnight all year round.
